फेब्रुवारी २०२६ चा सारांश (February at a glance)

February 2026 spans Magha (माघ) and the start of Phalguna (फाल्गुन) in the Amanta Marathi calendar. Devotion peaks on Maha Shivaratri (15 February), a statewide holiday when temples from Trimbakeshwar to Parli Vaijnath see overnight queues. Unlike January, this month is wedding-friendly: our muhurat list shows twelve shubh vivah dates, making February one of the busiest booking months for halls across Mumbai, Thane, and Pune.

The lunar rhythm includes Magha Purnima at the month’s opening, two Ekadashis (Vijaya and Amalaki), and Phalguna Amavasya before Holi season arrives in March. If you deferred marriage plans from January’s Shukra Moodha period, February is the first practical window — but popular venues fill fast, so confirm lagna with your pandit and deposit the hall within days of choosing a date.

Maha Shivaratri 2026 — what to expect in Maharashtra

15 February 2026 is Maha Shivaratri — among the most widely observed nights in the state. Home practice often includes fasting through the day, bathing the Shiva linga with milk and water, offering bel leaves and dhatura, and staying awake for jagaran with bhajans or televised programmes from major temples. Public observance draws lakhs to Shiva shrines: expect long walks and shoe-stand queues at Trimbakeshwar (Nashik), Bhimashankar, and Grishneshwar near Aurangabad.

Because Shivaratri is a gazetted holiday, plan office handovers on 14 February. Many families combine the vrat with a simple next-morning break-fast of sabudana or fruit. If you also have a wedding scheduled nearby on muhurat dates (e.g. 14 or 19 February), separate kitchen teams — Shivaratri fasting cooks should not cross-contaminate wedding feast prep if elders are strict. For background on how tithi dates are calculated, see What is Marathi Panchanga?

Magha Purnima & the Ekadashi pair

Magha Purnima (1 Feb) closes the holy Magha month for bathers who started on Paush Purnima in January. River ghats at Nashik and Pune see a final winter surge; if you are not travelling, a home bath with sesame oil and charity of grains satisfies many household traditions.

Vijaya Ekadashi (12 Feb) falls just before Shivaratri — useful for families who stack multiple vratas in one fortnight. Amalaki Ekadashi (27 Feb), associated with the amla tree, is observed by some with amla consumption or donation after the fast. Rules vary by sampradaya; our Ekadashi 2026 guide lists paran considerations without replacing your guru’s instruction.

Marriage muhurat in February 2026

February is marked “Popular” on our muhurat page with indicative shubh dates on 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, and 26 February 2026. That density gives flexibility for weekday versus weekend ceremonies, but also means decorator and band availability tightens — book immediately after pandit confirmation. Note that 12 February is Vijaya Ekadashi and 15 February is Shivaratri; many families avoid overlapping major vratas with wedding rituals even if a date appears on a generic list.

Read how muhurat selection works and compare the full grid on Marriage Muhurat 2026. March offers early-month dates too, but Holi week (3–4 March) disrupts travel — finishing vivah in February is often easier for out-of-town guests flying into Mumbai.

Phalguna Amavasya & Holi prep

Phalguna Amavasya (17 Feb) is the last dark moon before Holi colour season. Some households begin collecting firewood for Holika, others use the day for spring cleaning and wardrobe rotation. Stock gulal, pichkari, and old clothes for March’s Holi now — prices rise after Shivaratri weekend when suppliers shift inventory.

February practical tips (Maharashtra)

  • Shivaratri night: use prepaid parking near old-city temples; auto fares surge after midnight.
  • Wedding season overlaps with board-exam prep in some schools — send invites early for family with SSC students.
  • February mornings remain cool; outdoor mandaps need heaters or shawls for elderly guests.
  • Verify Rahu Kaal before muhurat pheras if your pandit uses choghadiya cross-checks.
  • Train reservations for Nashik/Trimbakeshwar Shivaratri should be booked weeks ahead.
